The director of IGCAT, Diane Dodd joined the ‘7th ASEF Public Forum on the Creative Industries in Asia and Europe: Enabling Crossovers’ in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on Saturday 18 October 2014. The event was in partnership with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Het Nieuwe Instituut from the Netherlands, with the support of the European Cultural Foundation.
This forum was launched as an opportunity for practitioners in the areas of culture, education, science, business, social enterprise and policy to exchange ideas and insights on the role and value of the creative industries in promoting the overall creativity of societies, particularly by enabling crossovers. The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of H.E. Ms Jet Bussemaker, Minister, Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Netherlands. The panel discussion featured renowned speakers from Asia and Europe and addressed the following key questions: Should we enable a culture of entrepreneurship in the arts? How to educate for creativity? How to ensure quality of life and environmental sustainability in creative cities?
The forum served as an official side event to the 6th Asia-Europe Cultural Ministers’ Meeting. It also marked the opening of the ASEM Culture Network Programme from 18-20 October 2014 across the Netherlands, which will gather 40 creative professionals from Asia and Europe for four days of workshops and site visits.
