The short film It’s All About the Taste! from Kvarner, European Region of Gastronomy candidate 2026, is the winner of the Linking Urban and Rural category of IGCAT’s International Food Film Menu 2023.
In 30 seconds, this promotional film shows Kavrner’s basic philosophy in gastronomy, which is that indigenous, fresh foods are the basis for a farm to table approach, i.e. from sea to table. Fresh, from the Kvarner bay scampi are brought to the restaurant, where they are prepared by a young, famous chef. Vineyards and wines are shown, with a detail of the ripening of local sparkling wines under the sea. Then the enjoyment of food is displayed in several locations. In the end, the couple in love, with a playful dog, sitting by the sea, in untouched nature, open sparkling wine, enjoying the end of the day and the sunset.
Produced by Filmerija and Kinoteka for the Kvarner Region Tourist Board, It’s All About the Taste! was selected by an international jury of IGCAT experts as the best short film in the Linking Urban and Rural category for supporting a re-connection between rural and urban environments by encouraging a re-valorisation of traditional food through innovation and, therefore, fostering social cohesion.
“Well filmed, edited and told. This video made me want to catch up with local cuisine, meet with friends and go diving for wines,” affirmed jury member Mai Damgaard.
“Beautiful colourful sequence of images. The local music choice is perfect. In a very short time, the video manages to convey the important connection between the rural areas and sea, and the urban fine dining setting,” stated jury member Raúl Torres.
The international jury of IGCAT’s International Food Film Menu 2023 included: Mai Damgaard Rasmussen (Denmark), Director of the FoodFilmFestival of Aarhus and Chair of the jury; Lluís Valentí, Director of the Girona Film Festival (Spain); Irene Giannakopoulos, Founder and President of Amorgos International Film Festival (Greece); Robert Palmer (Scotland), independent consultant and former Director of Culture, Cultural and Natural Heritage at the Council of Europe; Virginie Brégeon de Saint-Quentin, expert in design, marketing and artistic direction (France); and Raúl Torres Ajiaco, Communications Manager and Digital Content Creator at IGCAT (Colombia).
An online public’s vote is open (10-17 October 2023) to select the Public’s Favourite Film, that will be announced together with 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize at the 35th Girona Film Festival (Catalonia, World Region of Gastronomy awarded 2025) on 11 November 2023.

IGCAT’s Food Film Menu contributes to internationally promote local food products, know-how, traditions and new trends related to gastronomy and crafts; encourage film directors to become ambassadors for their regions; and stimulate awareness of food and cultural diversity.
