IGCAT pretende empoderar a las comunidades locales orientando, facilitando y apoyando a los líderes en las regiones para que reconozcan el potencial de sus distintos recursos gastronómicos, culturales, artísticos y de turismo sostenible. Esto es esencial para equilibrar las tendencias alimentarias globalizadas que están afectando a nuestro planeta, la salud y las economías locales.
IGCAT es un instituto sin ánimo de lucro que desde 2012 trabaja con consorcios de entidades y agentes regionales en los campos de la gastronomía, de la cultura, de las artes y del turismo. Cuenta con la experiencia de una red global de expertos y colabora con organizaciones intergubernamentales especializadas.
IGCAT otorga el Premio Región Europea/Mundial de Gastronomía y es la secretaría oficial de las Plataformas Europea y Mundial de Regiones de Gastronomía. Además, el Instituto ha desarrollado los siguientes proyectos internacionales: European Young Chef Award, World Food Gift Challenge, Top Websites for Foodie Travelers Award y Food Film Menu.
