Food Film Menu 2020- Best Food Film showcasing the European Young Chefs announced

Levi Devžej by Matic Borković elected overall winner of the Food Film Menu 2020

The short film Levi Devžej from Slovenia, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021, was announced Overall Winner of the Food Film Menu 2020, organised by IGCAT in collaboration with the World Regions of Gastronomy Platform.

Directed by Matic Borković (8Production), the short film tells the story of young chef Jure Dretnik, who won 2nd prize in the European Young Chef 2019 with a dish inspired by Prežihov Voranc’s book Levi Devžej, set in the Slovenian Carinthia region.

Levi Devžej was shortlisted by an international jury of IGCAT experts as the Best Food Film showcasing a European Young Chef. It was then selected out of 7 finalists as Overall Winner of the Food Film Menu 2020 through a people’s vote launched on social media by IGCAT on 4-7 September 2020.

“It brought me a lot of emotions. The young chef showed how to grow and step forward without forgetting his heritage, culture and history in Slovenia” affirmed jury member Marina Simião at the first selection stage.

“An imaginative theme, a poetic story-line and interesting ideas on how to present Slovenia’s gastronomy” stated jury member Robert Palmer.

The announcement of the Food Film Menu 2020 winners took place during the Opening Ceremony of Kuopio (Finland) as European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2020-2021, held on 11 September 2020 and live streamed on YouTube for the international audience.

Home of Nordic Flavours 2020 from Trondheim-Trøndelag, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022 and shortlisted in the Regions of Gastronomy category won second prize, while third prize was awarded to Mayonnaise, The Universal Sauce from Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022 winner of the Historical Food Routes category.

The Food Film Menu aims to collect short films about awarded and candidate Regions of Gastronomy that help raise awareness about the importance of food and cultural diversity for community well-being and a more sustainable future.
