Gastronomic destination – dream or reality?

Prof. Dr. Roberta Garibaldi and Dr. Diane Dodd both gave key note speeches at the round table “Belarus as Gastronomic Destination – Dream or Reality?” on 20 September 2018. The round table attracted the attention of the  National Tourism Agency and Department of Tourism of the Ministry. The meeting was organised by Valeria Klitsounova, Chair of the Board, Belarusian Association “Country Escape” who is an innovator in sustainable tourism. Participants included representatives of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Culture, media representatives, restaurateurs, chefs, farmstead owners, experts, culinary critics, diplomats, etc.

Roberta Garibaldi, IGCAT expert and aggregate professor at the University of Bergamo, Director of the Research Centre on Tourism Destinations and Heritage Interpretation talked about Food tourism and its growing impact all around the world.

Dr. Diane Dodd, President and co-Founder of the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT) presented the Regions of Gastronomy – a long-term strategic plan for sustainable growth.

Andrei Molchan, Director of Department for Tourism, Sports and Tourism Ministry of the Republic of Belarus talked about the prospects for gastronomy tourism in Belarus.

The conversations continued, looking at gastronomy tourism as a tool of development and promotion of destination and highlighting projects to modernise Belarus cuisine.
