IGCAT Contributes Expertise to World Shiology Forum’s Global Food Systems Report

The session brought together global experts to review a restructured draft report, which now features a more concise, problem-driven layout of 10 chapters. Discussions focused on three thematic sections that map the core challenges in the global food system and a revised methodological framework underpinning the report’s analysis.

The International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT) proudly took part in the Report Feedback & Brainstorming Session hosted online by the World Shiology Forum on 19 June 2025. Representing the organisation were IGCAT President, Dr. Diane Dodd, and Vice-President, Dr. Edith Szivas, both of whom provided key input to help shape a visionary report on the future of global food systems.

Dr. Dodd offered contributions grounded in IGCAT’s mission to support sustainable food futures through cultural identity, regional development, and food diversity. IGCAT’s work, she said, “underscores the urgent need for trade and food policies that empower communities, protect agrobiodiversity, and value food as a cultural, social, and ecological resource—not merely a commodity.”

Dr. Edith Szivas noted that “this collaborative session was an opportunity for IGCAT to ensure that the narrative speaks to local food cultures, equity, and sustainability.”

The brainstorming session forms part of an iterative and inclusive consultation process that will lead to the publication of the Forum’s global report. The World Shiology Forum aims to convene diverse voices to advocate for food systems that are just, resilient, and reflective of cultural and ecological values.

IGCAT’s participation in this important initiative aligns with its broader work to promote local food cultures and sustainability through the World Region of Gastronomy Platform.
