Director – Coimbra School of Hospitality and Tourism (Tourism of Portugal)

IGCAT Expert (International Institute of Gastronomy Culture, Arts and Tourism) from Coimbra Region, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021-22, José Luís Marques has been working in education and training for almost his entire professional life, with the exception, of his experience at the University of Coimbra Social Services. His core knowledge and skill areas include: Education and Training; Tourism and Gastronomy; Public Management; Social Sciences; Public Relations and Communication; Health and Safety (Work Environment).

He has been the Director of the Coimbra School of Hospitality and Tourism since 2019. Before that, he was Head of Food Division at the Social Action Services of the University of Coimbra (2017-2019), managing all the canteens, cafeterias and restaurants of the university campus. His previous professional experience at the Coimbra School of Hospitality and Tourism (2001-2017) includes: Coordinator of the Hotel, Restaurant and Facilities Operations (2009-2017); Vice-director (2004-2009), being Interim Director for 13 months (April 2006 to May 2007); Certification Department and Training Department Coordinator (2001-2004).

Previously, he worked at the Vocational Training School Beira Aguieira (Mortágua and Penacova Villages) as Director of Education (1998-2001), Responsible for the Public Relations and Communication Department (1996-2001), and Teacher in Social Sciences (1994-1998).

José Luís Marques holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Coimbra and postgraduate studies in Tourism and Hotel Management from the Coimbra School of Education.
