Mara Gyöngyvér PhD
Head – Biochemistry and Biotechnology Research Center, Sapientia University
Gyöngyvér Mara is a full professor at the Sapientia University, Faculty of Economics, Socio-Human Sciences and Engineering from Miercurea Ciuc. She is the head of the Biochemistry and Biotechnology Research Center of the University. During her 24-year university career, she held numerous leadership positions; from 2017 to 2024, she served as the university’s Vice Rector for QualityAssurance and Education.
She is recognized for her significant contributions to education, research, and science communication. She is actively involved in training students and young researchers, while also engaging broader audiences through science outreach activities.
As a researcher and PhD supervisor at Pécs University’s Doctoral Schoolon one hand she investigates sustainable agriculture focusing on plant–microbe interactions and the potential of priming strategies to enhance plant resilience and productivity in environmentally responsible ways. On the other hand, her work explores the human microbiome, with particular attention to nutrition-related aspects, including the role of prebiotic plant fibers in supporting health.
Through her interdisciplinary work, Gyöngyvér Mara, contributes to advancing knowledge at the interface of agriculture, microbiology, and human health, reflecting a strong commitment to both scientific excellence and societal impact.
Since 2026, she has been recognized as an Expert by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts, and Tourism (IGCAT).
