IGCAT visits Cava Codorniu

IGCAT was invited to visit Cava Codorniu’s as part of the Ambassadors Programme for Catalonia on Friday 19 February in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Barcelona. The Ambassadors programme was created by  the Catalan Tourist Board in order to connect leading ambassadors to different attractive areas of the region. Cava Cordorniu is one of many initiatives in Catalonia that has signed up to be part of the Catalonia Region of Gastonomy. – awarded European Region of Gastronomy 2016. Dr. Diane Dodd, Executive Director and Jordi Vegas, Projects and Office Manager of IGCAT were invited to Cava Codorniu as part of the Ambassadors Programme.  The visit included an introduction to the Cava company’s history, a tour through its ancient wine cellars, followed by a cava tasting with a wine expert and finally, all the particpants were gathered together in a modernism building created by Puig i Cadafalch for lunch where they could meet and exchange different ideas about the venue, the region and create new sinergies.

IGCAT is pleased to be part of the Ambassadors Programme and thankful for the warm welcome from Cava Codorniu’s staff and the Catalunya Convention Bureau. Cava Codorniu is one of the most important companies in the Catalan Gastronomy and Wine Tourism sector and is constantly innnovating on its wine tours and enotourism experiences. Diane Dodd pointed out that the Cava Cordorniu wine tour combines all the elements that IGCAT advocates including impressive architecture, history, landscape, quality products, gastronomy, culture, history – and,  it is this convergence that make the visit such a unique and memorable experience.

The European Region of Gastronomy initiative has been conceived by IGCAT (International Institute for Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism) and the award is given by an independent jury of international experts.  IGCAT’s philosophy is to award regions that create strong regional networks of stakeholders crossing sectors and disciplines to find local solutions to development challenges.
