Despite geopolitical challenges, Europe’s tourism sector showed remarkable resilience in early 2026, with international tourist arrivals rising by 5.6% and overnight stays up by 5.5% compared to 2025. This growth was powered by strong intra-regional demand and Europe’s reputation as a safe and attractive destination.

Northern Europe led the way with arrivals up 13%, while winter destinations like Italy (+14%), Austria (+7%), and France (+5%) thrived, supported by ski tourism and the Winter Olympics. Meanwhile, Mediterranean hotspots such as Greece (+33%) continued to draw travellers seeking milder winter conditions and value.
Despite global uncertainties, Europe’s ability to adapt and maintain its appeal highlights its role as a leading destination for travellers worldwide.
