Catalonia presented its programme as an European Region of Gastronomy 2016 on Monday 16 November at Fòrum Gastronomic in Girona. The event was an introductory conversation for all professionals and stakeholders related to Catalonia European Region of Gastronomy 2016 to present some of the 150 actions that the awarded region is planning for 2016 in oder to push up its image as a gastronomic destination at an International level. Patrick Torrents, Executive Director of the Catalan Tourist Board, introduced the programme with an explanation about the goals and he pointed out the importance of Gastronomy for Catalonia as a strategic factor to engage culture, agriculture and tourism. He added that Catalonia has a wide gastronomic variety thanks to its territorial diversity that makes each landscape an unique place to discover and experience the region through its cuisine. Finally, Mr Torrents explained that Catalonia wants to strengthen its image as a responsible destination and he highlighted the importance of a long-term commitment with the European Region of Gastronomy platform, as they want to establish a strong link with the European partners and become a reference in this pioneering project.
