The winner from Saimaa, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2024, was announced together with 2nd Prize, Latitude Iche Route: A Journey Through the Flavors of Manab\u00ed; 3rd Prize, Catalonia Is Appetising; and the Public\u2019s Favourite Film, The Apocalypse of the Aegean, at an award ceremony organised in the framework of Girona Film Festival, on 11 November 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Attended by a delegation of over 30 international representatives from IGCAT and the World Regions of Gastronomy Platform, the event was held at the <strong>Casa de Cultura<\/strong> in Girona, as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gironafilmfestival.com\/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_campaign=&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_term=girona%20film%20festival&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiA6byqBhAWEiwAnGCA4EjkfBtVaLkeRzIp3xYa9d8UxqcC9eLV90GiCuNZeRwnR9DEL3jqZhoCy-UQAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">35th Girona Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A screening of all category winners of the Food Film Menu 2023 saw food as local food as the protagonist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1st Prize: Harvesting Memories, from\u00a0Saimaa<\/strong><strong>, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2024 (Finland)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Already\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/igcat.org\/food-film-menu-2023-best-food-film-in-the-educating-for-our-future-category\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shortlisted<\/a>\u00a0as the best short film in the\u00a0<strong>Educating for Our Future<\/strong>\u00a0category, the film produced by\u00a0<strong>Minna Rautiainen-Cimrin<\/strong>\u00a0and directed by\u00a0<strong>Ukko Torni<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>Visit Karelia<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cA6g2O4jhEk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harvesting Memories<\/a>,\u00a0invites us to step into the world of a 10-year-old Finnish girl as she takes us through her precious day. Through her eyes, we witness the seamless passage of these traditions, where food and nature intertwine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA delightfully narrated film showing the wild beauty of North Karelia. The storytelling made by a child gives special magic to the charming images,\u201d affirmed jury member\u00a0<strong>Llu\u00eds Valent\u00ed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuperb photography and very inspiring images of a family outing in the forest. Everything is well thought out, from the accessories to the outfits, and it is quite nice to listen to the young girl talk about the family transmission of eating well,\u201d stated jury member\u00a0<strong>Virginie Br\u00e9geon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2nd Prize: Latitude Iche Route &#8211; A Journey Through the Flavors of Manab\u00ed, from Manab\u00ed, World Region of Gastronomy candidate 2026 (Ecuador)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/igcat.org\/food-film-menu-2023-best-food-film-showcasing-a-world-region-of-gastronomy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">selection<\/a> as the best short film to showcase a <strong>World Region of Gastronomy<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/rt_BsImIXNc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Latitude Iche Route: A Journey Through the Flavors of Manab\u00ed<\/a>, directed by\u00a0<strong>Juanka Castillo<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>FUEGOS Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0takes us on a gastronomic tour on the Latitude Iche Route, and is an invitation to explore the flavours, aromas, and techniques that make this region a unique culinary destination on the global stage; promoting sustainability, local development, and culinary excellence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA film that transmits love and respect for the land, showing us the changing landscapes and people connected to them along the route Latitude Iche,\u201d affirmed jury member\u00a0<strong>Mai Damgaard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLatitude Iche, a tasting route in Ecuador, is very well illustrated in the film. We get to discover traditional products and meet locals that are dedicated to this collective promotion of the territory through food\u201d stated jury member\u00a0<strong>Virginie Br\u00e9geon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3rd Prize: Catalonia Is Appetising, from Catalonia, World Region of Gastronomy awarded 2025 (Spain)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hvYdx7upl8k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Catalonia Is Appetising<\/a>\u00a0was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/igcat.org\/food-film-menu-2023-best-food-film-in-the-health-and-well-being-category\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chosen<\/a>\u00a0as the best short film in the\u00a0<strong>Health and Well-being<\/strong>\u00a0category of the Food Film Menu 2023. Ferran Adri\u00e0&#8217;s quote\u00a0\u201cIt is in breaks that innovation grows. Stop, think, plan. And then produce\u201d\u00a0guides Maria, N\u00faria, Cesc and Marc on their journey\/reunion in Catalonia, the land that saw them grow emotionally and culinarily. To know where you are going, you have to know where you are coming from, and in Catalonia they will experience the tastiest break of their lives.\u00a0Produced by\u00a0<strong>Craft i Sr. Alce Films<\/strong>\u00a0and directed by\u00a0<strong>Blai Graell<\/strong>\u00a0for the\u00a0<strong>Catalan Tourist Board<\/strong>, it won third prize.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat a line-up! Amazing cast showing the importance of connection, heart, health, landscapes, friends and family. It reminds us of the importance of taking time for ourselves, our close ones and the planet by making simple but necessary choices\u201d affirmed jury member\u00a0<strong>Mai Damgaard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn entertaining story showing beautiful landscapes and connecting art, history, tradition and cuisine. It is an uplifting video that makes great use of different audio-visual resources to create a storyline on the main concept of\u00a0break, keeping food at the centre,\u201d stated jury member\u00a0<strong>Irene Giannakopoulos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Each year IGCAT opens the Food Film Menu\u00a0 to a public vote and this year the\u00a0Public\u2019s Favourite film was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/zzQEkjcT6KE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Apocalypse of the Aegean<\/a>, first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/igcat.org\/food-film-menu-2023-best-food-film-featuring-a-young-chef-ambassador\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shortlisted<\/a>\u00a0as the best short film featuring one or more\u00a0<strong>Young Chef Ambassadors<\/strong>. The film\u00a0directed by\u00a0<strong>Yiannis Glinatsis-Reisis<\/strong>,\u00a0from the\u00a0<strong>South Aegean, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2019 (Greece)<\/strong>, delves in to the life of\u00a0young chef\u00a0<strong>Aikaterini Gonidaki<\/strong>, who represented the South Aegean at the\u00a0<strong>European Young Chef Award 2022<\/strong>.\u00a0It shows her personal journey from childhood to professional cook in Patmos and Kos.\u00a0In this video, we watch the evolution\u00a0<em>Kakavia<\/em>, a fishermen\u2019s dish, and Aikaterini&#8217;s deep respect for tradition and excellent ingredients of the Aegean Sea and her incredible innovation of the dish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA beautiful narration with a crucial message about the connection between territory and cuisine, as well as the importance of passing knowledge from generation to generation,\u201d stated jury member\u00a0<strong>Irene Giannakopoulos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA poetic and committed video showing beautiful landscapes and a traditional recipe carefully made on a boat. We then follow this young chef in her gastronomic restaurant, where her undoubted talent is shown,\u201d affirmed jury member\u00a0<strong>Virginie Br\u00e9geon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IGCAT\u2019s International Food Film Menu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>IGCAT\u2019s International Food Film Menu 2023 included 11 categories: World Region of Gastronomy; European Region of Gastronomy; Young Chef Ambassadors; Food and Craft Gifts; Feeding the Planet; Innovation, Creativity and Job Opportunities; Educating for Our Future; Balanced and Sustainable Tourism; Linking Urban and Rural; Health and Well-being; Best Young Director.<\/p>\n<p>A committee of international experts in the food, culture and film sectors shortlisted one winning short film in each category, which now form the <a href=\"https:\/\/igcat.org\/food-film-menu\/food-film-menu-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Food Film Menu 2023<\/a>, to be showcased in different international film festivals.
