The short film Latitude Iche Route: A Journey Through the Flavors of Manab\u00ed<\/em><\/strong> from Manab\u00ed, World Region of Gastronomy candidate 2026<\/strong>, is the winner of the World Regions of Gastronomy<\/strong> category of IGCAT\u2019s International Food Film Menu 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

More than a gastronomic tour, the Latitude Iche Route is a voyage into Manab\u00ed\u2019s identity, tradition, and culture. With a blend of tradition and innovation, the Latitude Iche Route is an invitation to explore the flavours, aromas, and techniques that make this region a unique culinary destination. As part of an integrated gastronomic ecosystem, this route promotes sustainability, local development, and culinary excellence, elevating Ecuador\u2019s Manab\u00ed gastronomy to the global stage.<\/p>\n

Directed by Juanka Castillo<\/strong> for the FUEGOS Foundation<\/a>, Latitude Iche Route: A Journey Through the Flavors of Manab\u00ed<\/em> was selected by an international jury of IGCAT experts<\/strong> as the best short film to showcase a World Region of Gastronomy, highlighting the local food heritage, indigenous knowledge, craft and traditions related to gastronomy and their combination with food innovation, as well as sustainable initiatives and experiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cA film that transmits love and respect for the land, showing us the changing landscapes and people connected to them along the route Latitude Iche,\u201d affirmed jury member Mai Damgaard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cLatitude Iche, a tasting route in Ecuador, is very well illustrated in the film. We get to discover traditional products and meet locals that are dedicated to this collective promotion of the territory through food\u201d stated jury member Virginie Br\u00e9geon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0international jury<\/strong>\u00a0of IGCAT\u2019s International Food Film Menu 2023 included:\u00a0Mai Damgaard Rasmussen<\/a>\u00a0(Denmark), Director of the FoodFilmFestival of Aarhus and Chair of the jury;\u00a0Llu\u00eds Valent\u00ed<\/a>, Director of the Girona Film Festival (Spain);\u00a0Irene Giannakopoulos<\/a>, Founder and President of Amorgos International Film Festival (Greece);\u00a0Robert Palmer<\/a>\u00a0(Scotland), independent consultant\u00a0 and former Director of Culture, Cultural and Natural Heritage at the Council of Europe;\u00a0Virginie Br\u00e9geon de Saint-Quentin<\/a>, expert in design, marketing and artistic direction (France); and\u00a0Ra\u00fal Torres Ajiaco<\/a>, Communications Manager and Digital Content Creator at IGCAT (Colombia).<\/p>\n

An online public\u2019s vote<\/a> is open (10-17 October 2023) to select the Public\u2019s Favourite Film<\/strong>, that will be announced together with 1st<\/sup>, 2nd<\/sup> and 3rd<\/sup> Prize<\/strong> at the\u00a035th Girona Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0(Catalonia, World Region of Gastronomy awarded 2025) on\u00a011 November 2023.<\/p>\n

About IGCAT\u2019s International Food Film Menu<\/strong><\/p>\n

IGCAT\u2019s Food Film Menu contributes to internationally promote local food products, know-how, traditions and new trends related to gastronomy and crafts; encourage film directors to become ambassadors for their regions; and stimulate awareness of food and cultural diversity.<\/p>\n

According to director Ljubomir Stefanov<\/strong>, official ambassador for the project, \u201cIGCAT\u2019s Food Film Menu is a wonderful initiative that raises awareness about food\u2019s vital role in local sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n

To increase the visibility of the Food Film Menu, IGCAT collaborates with several international film festivals and cultural institutions<\/a> including: the FoodFilmFestival<\/strong> in Aarhus; Girona Film Festival<\/strong>; EATSA Art & Tourism Film Festival<\/strong>; ART&TUR International Tourism Film Festival<\/strong>; Amorgos Tourism Film Festival<\/strong>; Menorca International Film Festival; <\/strong>and NNLE Youth Palace of Zugdidi Municipality <\/strong>in Georgia.<\/p>\n
