The short film A Food and Love Story<\/a>\u00a0from Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022<\/a>, was selected as\u00a0Best European Film<\/strong>\u00a0Overall\u00a0<\/strong>of the\u00a0Food Film Menu 2021<\/a>, organised by\u00a0IGCAT<\/strong>\u00a0in collaboration with the\u00a0European<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0World Regions of Gastronomy Platforms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Produced by Bendito Films<\/strong>\u00a0for the Consell Insular de Menorca<\/strong>,\u00a0A Food and Love Story<\/em> is the first gastronomic short film made in Menorca. A fictional story that spans from the 90’s to the present day, the film tells the story of a child who dreams of being a chef. One summer, he meets a foreign little girl with whom he makes great friends but who returns home once her holiday is over. Years later, life makes them meet again.<\/p>\n

A Food and Love Story<\/em> was shortlisted by an international jury of experts as the Best Food Film showcasing Food-related Visitor Experiences or Food Gifts from the Regions of Gastronomy<\/strong>. It was then selected out of 7 finalists as Best European Film<\/strong> Overall <\/strong>of the Food Film Menu 2021 through a people\u2019s vote launched on social media by IGCAT on 15-26 September 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cA brilliant short film, appealing to the senses and feelings. It is superbly written, shot and directed, with imagination and a creative approach to the subject. The technical quality of the image, the sound, the music and the dialogues are very good. Overall, a creative way of celebrating Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022, its food and its culinary tradition\u201d affirmed jury member Hugo Alexandre Cruz <\/strong>at the first selection stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cInventive, touching, with an original story-line combining the love<\/em> of food as seen through the eyes of a child sharing his passion with his friend, and the love<\/em> they experience when meeting years later: a love story<\/em> at different levels.\u201d stated jury member Robert Palmer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the Food Film Menu 2021 winners took place at EATSA Art and Tourism Film Festival<\/a>, in Peniche (Portugal) on 27 September 2021 and was livestreamed on YouTube for the international audience.<\/p>\n

Trondheim-Tr\u00f8ndelag \u2013 New Horisons<\/a> <\/em>from Trondheim-Tr\u00f8ndelag, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022<\/a>, shortlisted in the\u00a0Food and Sustainability\u00a0<\/em>category, was selected as\u00a02nd Best European Film<\/strong>. \u201cAn upbeat celebration of the many local producers that have given chefs the best ingredients and arguably contributed to Trondheim-Tr\u00f8ndelag being awarded European Region of Gastronomy in 2022\u201d commented jury member\u00a0Alessio Cavicchi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3rd Best European Film<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded to Savonian Secret #tastesavo<\/em><\/a> from Kuopio, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2020-21<\/a>, winner of the Historical Food Routes<\/em>\u00a0category.\u00a0\u201cSavonian Secret #tastesavo is based on a beautiful narrative with images that transmit love and peacefulness about the region portrayed. It is a rich representation of the historical food and farming traditions of Kuopio, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2020-2021\u201d explained jury member\u00a0Mariana Cala\u00e7a Baptista\u00a0<\/strong>at the first selection stage.<\/p>\n

Finally, the prize for\u00a0Best Potential World Region of Gastronomy Film<\/strong> went to Taste of Al-Hasa<\/a>, <\/em>from Saudi Arabia that jury member Mai Damgaard Rasmussen\u00a0<\/strong>defined as\u00a0a \u201cbrilliant audio-visual perfect for social media distribution that evokes a desire to meet the people, traditions, landscapes and costumes of this wonderful region.\u201d<\/p>\n

IGCAT\u2019s Food Film Menu 2021 included 8 categories: European<\/strong> Regions of Gastronomy<\/strong>; European Young Chefs<\/strong>; Food-related Visitor Experiences or Food Gifts from the Regions of Gastronomy<\/strong>; Historical Food Routes<\/strong>; New Food Trends<\/strong>; Environment and Food<\/strong>; Food and Sustainability<\/strong>; and, new to this year\u2019s edition, a category devoted to Candidate World Regions of Gastronomy<\/strong>, that collected food stories coming from all continents.<\/p>\n

A committee of international experts in the food, culture and film sectors selected one winning short film in each category, which now form the Food Film Menu 2021, to be showcased in different international film festivals.<\/p>\n

Chaired by Mai Damgaard Rasmussen<\/strong>, Director of the FoodFilmFestival in Aarhus (Denmark), the jury included: Dr. Diane Dodd<\/strong>, President of IGCAT (Spain); Robert Palmer<\/strong>, IGCAT Expert and independent consultant in the cultural sector (Scotland); Alessio Cavicchi<\/strong>, IGCAT Expert and Professor in Agribusiness, Rural Development and Branding at the University of Pisa (Italy); Mariana Cala\u00e7a Baptista<\/strong>, independent consultant in heritage, tourism, communication and culture (Portugal); Hugo Alexandre Cruz<\/strong>, photographer and director (Portugal); Llu\u00eds Valent\u00ed<\/strong>, Director of the Girona Film Festival (Spain); and Oda Moen Tj\u00f8rstad<\/strong>, Head of Programming of Kosmorama Trondheim International Film Festival (Norway).<\/p>\n
