Ancient and forgotten recipes starred at the 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0edition of the\u00a0Festival della Pasticceria Tradizionale Mantovana<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Festival of Mantuan Traditional Pastry-Making) that on 22 September 2018 gathered bakeries and pastry shops from the four provinces involved in East Lombardy, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2017<\/a>, namely Mantua, Bergamo, Brescia and Cremona.<\/p>\n

With the aim to promote the region\u2019s excellent pastry culture, the Festival hosted pastry chefs from the different provinces who proposed both traditional desserts and recipes dating back to 19th<\/sup>\u00a0and beginning of 20th<\/sup>\u00a0century that have gradually disappeared from Mantuan kitchens and bakeries. In addition, pastry chefs were encouraged to present a\u00a0dessert of memories<\/em>, a recipe narrating a story from their childhood or family, or simply related to a sweet memory from their past. All recipes were accompanied by tastings of local wines from the province of Mantua.<\/p>\n

The event offered also the chance to taste the innovative dessert\u00a0Convivium<\/em>\u00a0created in 2017 by Atena pastry shop from Sabbioneta (Mantua) and chosen to represent East Lombardy. As a symbol of the synergies that the European Region of Gastronomy programme has generated among the four different provinces, the ring-shaped\u00a0Convivium<\/em>\u00a0cake combines some of the most outstanding ingredients from all the territories involved such as: Garda Olive Oil PDO (Brescia);\u00a0Moscato di Scanzo<\/em>\u00a0wine (Bergamo);\u00a0Torrone<\/em>\u00a0icing (Cremona); and pumpkin cream filling (Mantua).<\/p>\n

Organised by the Municipality of Mantua<\/strong> together with the Mantua Wine and Flavours Route<\/strong> at the Art Nouveau building\u00a0Loggia del Grano<\/em>\u00a0(Mantua), the Festival represents a remarkable example of the legacy of the European Region of Gastronomy title that contributed to boost the gastronomic profile of East Lombardy, granting prominence to the region as a food destination.<\/p>\n

Candidate and awarded Regions of Gastronomy<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0from Europe, guided by\u00a0IGCAT<\/a><\/strong>, are working together to raise awareness about the importance of their cultural and food uniqueness and share the long-term aim to: promote a better quality of life in European regions; highlight distinctive food cultures; educate for better health and sustainability; nurture creativity; improve tourism standards; and stimulate gastronomic innovation.<\/p>\n
