The short film Harvesting Memories<\/em><\/strong> from Saimaa, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2024<\/a>, is the winner of the Educating for Our Future<\/strong> category of IGCAT\u2019s International Food Film Menu 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This video invites us to step into the world of a 10-year-old Finnish girl as she takes us through her precious day. From gathering wild treasures of mushrooms and berries to learning the art of bread-making, she shares her family\u2019s culinary traditions. Through her eyes, we witness the seamless passage of these traditions, where food and nature intertwine.<\/p>\n

Directed by Ukko Torni<\/strong> for Visit Karelia<\/a>, Harvestiing Memories <\/em>was selected by an international jury of IGCAT experts<\/strong> as the best short film in the Educating for Our Future category for contributing to nourishing children and adults through culinary and cultural education for responsible production and consumption, with the aim to improve people’s health, encourage sustainable development, and instil pride in local food cultures.<\/p>\n

\u201cA delightfully narrated film showing the wild beauty of North Karelia. The storytelling made by a child gives special magic to the charming images,\u201d affirmed jury member Llu\u00eds Valent\u00ed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuperb photography and very inspiring images of a family outing in the forest. Everything is well thought out, from the accessories to the outfits, and it is quite nice to listen to the young girl talk about the family transmission of eating well,\u201d stated jury member Virginie Br\u00e9geon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0international jury<\/strong>\u00a0of IGCAT\u2019s International Food Film Menu 2023 included:\u00a0Mai Damgaard Rasmussen<\/a>\u00a0(Denmark), Director of the FoodFilmFestival of Aarhus and Chair of the jury;\u00a0Llu\u00eds Valent\u00ed<\/a>, Director of the Girona Film Festival (Spain);\u00a0Irene Giannakopoulos<\/a>, Founder and President of Amorgos International Film Festival (Greece);\u00a0Robert Palmer<\/a>\u00a0(Scotland), independent consultant\u00a0 and former Director of Culture, Cultural and Natural Heritage at the Council of Europe;\u00a0Virginie Br\u00e9geon de Saint-Quentin<\/a>, expert in design, marketing and artistic direction (France); and\u00a0Ra\u00fal Torres Ajiaco<\/a>, Communications Manager and Digital Content Creator at IGCAT (Colombia).<\/p>\n

An online\u00a0public\u2019s vote<\/a>\u00a0is open (10-17 October 2023) to select the\u00a0Public\u2019s Favourite Film<\/strong>, that will be announced together with\u00a01st<\/sup>, 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0and 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0Prize<\/strong>\u00a0at the\u00a035th Girona Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0(Catalonia, World Region of Gastronomy awarded 2025) on\u00a011 November 2023.<\/p>\n
